About the Project

The Ahern Name Study project serves as a collaborative platform to collect information on the Ahern name. The hope is that other researchers like you will join the study to help make it a valuable reference point for other genealogists who are researching or have an interest in the Ahern name.

As a One Name Study, this project is not limited to persons who are related biologically. Individual team studies can be used to branch out the research into specific methods and areas of interest, such as geographically (England Aherns), by time period (18th Century Aherns), or by topic (Ahern DNA, Ahern Occupations, Ahern Statistics). These studies may also include a number of family branches which have no immediate link with each other. Some researchers may even be motivated to go beyond the profile identification and research stage to compile fully sourced, single-family histories of some of the families they discover through this name study project.

Great resource for Ahern Family Members;

https://sites.rootsweb.com/~aherns/ahobit96.htm#obits

It lists the Obituaries for dozens of Ahern Family Members.

Searching for records of Mary Ahern b abt 1886 in Cork, Ireland immigrated to Pittsburgh, Pa. USA abt 1908. She had a brother Simon who also immigrated to same. I also believe she had a sister. This would be my grandmother

Youghal in County Cork is another Ahern(e) hotspot.
I am not sure who else is doing Ahern, but I know I have Ahern cousins. I am not interested in DNA however.

Can anyone tell me if any member has taken a FamilyTree DNA or is on Gedmatch.

I have written to join this project but have had no reply. John Chilstone.
